✈️ MUC 07:15 → SPC 13:35🏨 Villa María · Tajuya
🧳
Settle in — easy first evening
Land 13:35, pick up the rental car at 14:00 (TopCar counter), then drive across the island to Los Llanos de Aridane — about 45 minutes via the LP-2/LP-3 tunnel road. See the 🧭 Routes tab for the turn-by-turn.
🚗
Bring to the TopCar counter: confirmation voucher, driving licence, passport/ID, and the credit card in the main driver's name. Confirmation #759844948.
🌅
Once checked in, it's a 10-minute drive down to Plaza de La Glorieta above Puerto Naos — mosaic-tiled viewpoint, best light in the late afternoon before sunset. Easy, low-key first outing.
🏖️
Puerto Naos itself has a long black-sand beach and a promenade with casual restaurants — a relaxed way to end day one after a travel day.

Mirador del Acantilado del Time
Drop off the LP-1 through banana plantations (~8 min) to a small car park by an old factory building; a 3-minute path leads to a platform looking straight down the cliff onto Puerto de Tazacorte — "almost like a drone shot." Away from the main road, so usually quiet.

🚗 ~10 min drive down to the coast
Down the cliff road into Puerto de Tazacorte
🍽️ Lunch · 12:30 PM
Puerto de Tazacorte
La Palma's main fishing harbour, directly below the mirador. Black-sand beach, palm promenade, and a cluster of casual seafood restaurants along the seafront — a good lunch stop with a view back up at the cliff you just stood on.
🚗 ~25 min drive north via Tijarafe
LP-1 north, then down toward the coast near Tijarafe
⏰ 2:30 PM
Porís de Candelaria
"This spectacular pirate bay shouldn't be missed." White houses built straight into 50-metre cliffs, reachable by a path down to the water. Guide tip: pass the first car park — there's a second one lower down. Good spot for a wide-angle photo.
📖 Highlight Guide · Porís de Candelaria (p.6) 📖 9 La Palma Tipps (p.13)
🌅 Sunset
Drive back via Puerto Naos
Head back south to the hotel area. If there's energy left, the black-sand beach at Puerto Naos is a 5-minute detour from Villa María for a last look at the water before dinner.

Mirador de Santo Domingo de Garafía
Viewpoint over the cliff coast and Atlantic in the northwest. The access road is single-lane in places — drive carefully. Ends in a small car park; from there, two short hiking options lead down toward the sea (Puerto de Santo Domingo or Playa de Bujarén), both needing sure footing.

🍽️ Lunch · 12:30 PM
La Fajana — Natural Pools
"An absolute must-do." Seawater pools built right against the ocean in Barlovento — swim while watching waves break on the rocks, then eat at the restaurant on site. Water is cold; bring swimwear anyway.
📖 Highlight Guide · La Fajana (p.4)
🚗 ~15 min
Inland toward San Andrés y Sauces
⏰ 2:30 PM
La Zarza — Parque Cultural
Small museum on the Guanche (original Canarian) inhabitants, plus a short, easy circular trail (~20–30 min, fine with kids) past caves and spiral petroglyphs carved into the rock. Larger hikes also start from the car park. Open Tue–Sun 11:00–17:00, €2.
📖 9 La Palma Tipps · La Zarza (p.5)
🚗 ~20 min back toward Barlovento
Via Don Pedro, then a gravel track (walkable in ~30 min) or careful driving
⏰ 4:30 PM
Mirador de La Calzada
One of the best viewpoints in the north, overlooking the Barranco Fagundo gorge and the coast. Starts near the hamlet of Don Pedro — a mostly flat 2.3km gravel track (~30 min each way on foot), or drive carefully. A picnic table waits at the top.

Roque de los Muchachos
La Palma's highest point (~2,426m) and its landmark — home to some of the world's most important astronomical observatories. The road up is very winding (~1–1.5h from Los Llanos) but worth it. Go on a clear day: you'll see not just the whole island but Tenerife, La Gomera and El Hierro too. Clouds tend to build later in the day, so go early.
📖 Highlight Guide · Roque de los Muchachos (p.10)
🚗 ~1h down to the coast
Winding descent via LP-4 to the east coast
🍽️ Lunch · 1:30 PM
Santa Cruz de La Palma
"The island's most beautiful town, and its capital." Cruise-ship port, pretty old town with shops and boutiques in traditional Spanish houses, and the finest wooden balconies on the island along Av. Marítima. Guide tip: stop at the market hall for a freshly pressed sugarcane juice.
📖 Highlight Guide · Santa Cruz de La Palma (p.8)
🚗 ~20 min north
Toward Puntallana
⏰ 4:00 PM
Playa de Nogales
Probably La Palma's most dramatic beach — black sand at the foot of a sheer cliff, reachable only on foot (~15 min down from the car park; there's a worthwhile viewpoint on the way). No swimming (dangerous currents), but it's spectacular to see. Quiet on weekdays.

Museo del Puro Palmero
Small cigar museum near the capital — info boards, short films and live demonstrations of hand-rolling, plus background on banana and sugarcane farming. Shop sells handmade cigars and rum. Good for non-smokers and families too. Open Tue–Sat, 10:00–13:00 only — fits Friday.

El Aljibe (Playa de Echentive)
Fuencaliente, deep south. Unusual natural pools with an almost unnaturally green colour and very clear water — even fish in them — set back from a stony beach. Great for families at high tide; access to the open Atlantic too, but bring water shoes and sun protection (little shade).
📖 9 La Palma Tipps · El Aljibe (p.10)

Toward Villa de Mazo
🍽️ Lunch · 1:00 PM
Playa Salemera (Arenas Blancas)
Small coastal fishing village with a dark-sand beach, fishing boats, and a natural lava pool beside a white lighthouse — shallow and calm at low tide, filled and wave-washed at high tide. A path along the coast leads on to Playa del Burro a few minutes further.
📖 9 La Palma Tipps · Playa Salemera (p.9)

🌅 Sunset → ⭐ Night
Mirador Astronómico del Llano del Jable
"The most intense night sky we've ever seen." Beautiful even at sunset, then — once the stars come out — millions of them, constellations, and with luck the Milky Way. La Palma is a certified Starlight Reserve with strict light regulations, which is exactly why this works. Pack a jacket — it gets genuinely cold.

Routes & Drives
La Palma is small but steep and winding — distances look short on the map but take longer than you'd expect. These are the key drives of the trip.
Island Map
Every stop from the itinerary and both guides, plotted. Filter by day or see everything at once.
All Sights
Every place from the two guides, with page references. 📖 orange = 9 La Palma Tipps (unaufschiebbar.de) · 📖 teal = La Palma Highlight-Guide (life.goes.paradise / Jenny & Flo).
Eat & Drink
Neither guide is a restaurant guide, so this list is short and honest: a few guide-mentioned stops, plus the obvious areas to browse for the rest. Check opening hours and current ratings before you go.
🌊
La Fajana Restaurant (Day 2)
On-site restaurant right at the natural pools in Barlovento — convenient for a lunch break between swims.
🧃
Mercado Municipal, Santa Cruz (Day 3)
The market hall in the capital — guide tip is a freshly pressed sugarcane juice, plus general produce and snack stalls.
🚬
Museo del Puro Palmero shop (Day 3)
Not a restaurant, but the museum shop sells handmade cigars and local rum — a nice pick-up on the way back from Playa de Nogales.
⚓
Puerto de Tazacorte seafront (Day 1)
A row of casual seafood restaurants along the harbour promenade — good for a lunch stop, no single spot pinned down by either guide, so check what looks busy.
🏖️
Puerto Naos promenade (near the hotel)
The closest beach town to Villa María, with a run of restaurants and bars along the black-sand beach — the easy default for most evenings.
🏘️
Los Llanos de Aridane
The island's second town, a short drive from the hotel — wider everyday selection of cafés and restaurants around the Plaza de España.
